Spring is Almost here!

As the days grow longer and the temperatures begin to rise, spring is just around the corner here in the bee yard. This is one of the busiest — and most exciting — times of the year for beekeepers. The colonies are waking up, brood production is increasing, and the familiar hum of healthy hives is getting stronger each week.

Spring work starts with thorough hive inspections. We check for strong laying queens, solid brood patterns, and adequate food stores left from winter. Any weak colonies are combined, and strong ones are given room to expand. Adding boxes at the right time is critical to prevent early swarming and to support healthy colony growth as nectar flow approaches.

Equipment prep is also in full swing. Frames are repaired, new foundations are installed, and extra supers are assembled and ready for the first big bloom. A clean, organized bee yard helps ensure a smooth honey season ahead.

We’re also preparing this year’s nucleus colonies (nucs). Our spring nucs will include a productive laying queen, multiple frames of brood in all stages, and strong worker populations ready to establish quickly in their new homes. If you’re looking to start beekeeping or expand your apiary, nuc reservations will be opening soon. Availability is limited, so early inquiries are encouraged.

In addition, we will have locally harvested honey available from last season’s crop while supplies last. It’s always rewarding to share the pure, raw honey our bees worked so hard to produce.

Spring is a season of renewal — not just for the landscape, but for the bees and beekeepers alike. We’re looking forward to a strong start and another productive year in the bee yard. Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to reach out with questions about honey or nuc availability! 🐝🌼
