🍯 Beekeeping Newsletter – Sept. 2025
Preparing Your Hives for Winter - As summer winds down, it’s time to start thinking about winter readiness. Strong colonies going into the colder months have the best chance of thriving come spring. Here are a few reminders as you prepare your hives:
Check colony strength – Combine weak colonies if needed to ensure they can maintain warmth.
Monitor food stores – Bees need 60–90 pounds of honey to survive the winter, depending on your region. 5 to 7 full frames of honey is ideal.
Reduce entrances – Entrance reducers help keep out cold drafts and pests.
Inspect for pests – Late summer is a critical time to monitor and treat for varroa mites, hive beetles, and wax moths.
Ensure ventilation – Moisture is more dangerous than cold; proper ventilation reduces condensation inside the hive.
A little preparation now goes a long way toward healthy hives in the spring.
2025 Honey Harvest - Limited Supply - This year’s honey harvest is bottled and ready, but quantities are limited. Once it’s gone, it’s gone! If you’d like to stock up on this season’s honey, place your order soon to ensure you don’t miss out.
Reserve Your 2026 Nucs Early - We’re already looking ahead to next spring. Nucs for the 2026 season are available for pre-order now, but space is limited. If you’re planning to expand your apiary or start fresh next year, reach out soon to reserve your spot.
